Bridges is honored to be a Wreaths Across America (WAA) sponsor and volunteer supporter. We are part of WAA’s annual tribute to “Remember our fallen U.S. veterans, Honor those who serve, and Teach children the value of freedom” by coordinated wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as over 1,100 additional locations in all 50 states, at sea, and abroad. This year December 16 was National Wreaths Across America Day, and Bridges volunteers helped to place wreaths on 21,000 graves in the Annapolis National Cemetery and 5,000 graves in Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
Tom Zabetakis has been leading the Bridges effort to support WAA for many years. Tom shared this historical perspective:
“Worcester Wreath Company began WAA in 1992 by placing wreaths in the older sections of Arlington National Cemetery. The annual tribute went on quietly for several years, until 2005, when a photo of the stones at Arlington National Cemetery adorned with snow covered wreaths circulated around the internet. Suddenly the project received national attention, and in 2007 the Worcester family, along with veterans, and other groups, formed WAA, a non-profit 501c(3) organization.”
Many thanks to Tom, Nikki Jones, and Diana Gresham for their leadership in coordinating this meaningful effort and to all the Bridges volunteers for helping to make a positive impact in the community.
